DEXA

Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA, or DEXA) is a spectrum imaging method for assessing bone mineral density (BMD).

Two X-ray beams of varying intensity levels are directed at the patient’s bones. After removing soft tissue absorption, the bone mineral density (BMD) may be calculated from the absorption of each beam by bone. The most extensively used and fully researched bone density assessment method is dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

In contrast to the nuclear bone scan, which is sensitive to specific metabolic illnesses of bones in which bones are attempting to mend after infections, fractures, or tumours, the DXA scan is primarily used to diagnose and follow osteoporosis. It is also used to determine body composition at times.
